Two clocks of the EU AI Act: which deadline actually applies to you?
Two different EU AI Act deadlines are circulating, and mixing them up is expensive.
Clock one: the voluntary Code of Practice signatory window closes 2026-07-22, 18:00 CET. Signing gives a presumption of compliance under the Code - not a certificate. No official AI Act certification scheme exists today, and anyone selling you one is overclaiming.
Clock two: from 2026-08-02, Article 50 transparency obligations become enforceable - chatbots must disclose they are AI, AI-generated content must be labeled. Fines can reach EUR 15M or 3% of worldwide turnover (AI Act, Art. 99(4)).
